It lives in forests ranging from low mountains to altitudes below 2000 meters. The diet is animal food, including insects, spiders, land snails, etc. Before metamorphosis, young children consume the yolk in their bodies to sustain their lives. The basal subspecies lays 60-110 eggs from January to February or April to May, the subspecies キタゴガエ from February to March, and the subspecies クシマタゴガエ from October to April in areas such as puddles near streams or streams.
